SD—03 · Cirò Bianco DOC

Lipuda

The grape the Greeks brought here, still exactly where they left it.

Tasting

Straw-yellow with green glints. The nose starts closed and needs coaxing: citron, chamomile, bitter almond underneath. The palate is broader than the colour suggests, and it closes on a bitter note — a trait of Greco, not a flaw, and the reason it can stand up to oily fish without being flattened.

Pairings

  • — Salt cod with potatoes and dried peppers
  • — Mixed fried fish
  • — Fresh sheep ricotta

§

Where it comes from

The parcels in this bottle.

Manche

2,2 ha · 160 m · East · 2008

East-facing: it gets the sun early and loses it early, which in Calabria is half the battle for a white.

Lipuda

3,0 ha · 96 m · North-east · 2001

It runs along the stream. In dry years it is the only parcel that does not suffer; in wet ones it is the first to give trouble.

The whole terroir

The ledger

Two letters a year: one in March when the vintage is released, one in October when harvest is in. Nothing else.
